The Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood of Transasia Bio-Medicals unveiled India′s first indigenously-developed RT-PCR kit to test the disease at the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone (AMTZ) on Friday.

The Transasia-Erba monkeypox RT-PCR kit is a simple-to-use and very sensitive test with a specially prepared primer and probe for increased accuracy. Transasia′s Founder-chairman Suresh Vazirani said that the equipment would aid in infection management and early detection.

India has reported ten cases of monkeypox so far. The Indian Council of Medical Research had earlier in the day stated that it might conduct a sero-survey among contacts of monkeypox patients for the existence of antibodies and to see how many of them were asymptomatic.

According to the Center′s "Guidelines on Management of Monkeypox Disease," the primary method of transmission among humans involves large respiratory droplets from infected person to a healthy person when they are in close contact. Indirect contact with lesion material, such as through contaminated clothing or linen of an infected individual and direct touch with body fluids or lesions. Animals can spread diseases to humans by biting or scratching them or if people eat bushmeat. (Daily Hunt, 19 Aug 2022)
